Tinnitus is the perceived constant ringing of the ear. The ringing could be severe, moderate or mild. Some tinnitus could go unnoticed especially when a person is busy and the senses are overloaded with different sensations. Cure for tinnitus differs because it can be caused by different factors.
The ear has many two different functions. These are hearing and balance. In the hearing process it involves the outer, middle and inner ear. The sound waves travel from the outer to the middle ear, then from the middle ear to the inner ear. The cochlea in the middle ear converts the sound waves into a nerve impulse and transmits it to the brain. The brain then, interprets the impulse and sends out a response to it. Any obstruction or disruption in this process can cause a hearing loss and sometimes, tinnitus.
Tinnitus is a very serious disease of the ears that can disrupt the normal activity of a person. It could range from mild ringing in the ears to a loud roaring or buzzing in the ears. This severe type of tinnitus is very irritating and it could cause a disruption in the sleep and activities of a person. Tinnitus has many causes. It can be caused by presbycusis – a degenerative disorder causing a decrease in hearing acuity that is age related. Sometimes bone around the ossicles which are irregular can also cause tinnitus. Cure of tinnitus varies and its treatment would depend on the cause of tinnitus. When the cause is unknown and the professionals examining it cannot determine its cause, the disorder is then considered untreatable. The only management given to cases like this is to minimize or mask the ringing sound in the ear. Hearing aids can be used to amplify the sounds during the day to drown out the tinnitus. At night, music can be used to drown out the ringing sound in the ears. Other therapies are also done and available to help people with tinnitus cope with their disorder. Cure for tinnitus is present but it is dependent on the cause of tinnitus. Therefore, if we want to avail of cure for tinnitus, we must first determine what caused it. Other than age related causes, tinnitus may also be acquired from abusive use of ears. Our ears are very sensitive, so prolonged exposure to noise pollution, over cleaning, and other abusive acts to our ears can ultimately result to ear damage such as tinnitus.
